Our Team
James McGuire, Attorney
James’ practice focuses exclusively on family law litigation and mediation, although he has represented parties in a wide variety of commercial litigation matters throughout his legal career. He is an experienced litigator, having tried cases in both State and Federal Court. James assists clients with complex marital dissolutions, including those of high net worth individuals, often involving business valuations and estate issues. James favors a team approach, which is client-centered and cost-effective.
James is an experienced family law mediator and assists parties through mediation and arbitration to resolve their disputes. James is also trained and experienced in Collaborative Law.
James’ practice includes a wide-range of family law matters, including:
- Complex marital dissolutions
- Legal separations
- Domestic partnership dissolutions
- Custody matters (including parenting plan modifications)
- Child relocation matters
- Child support matters (including adjustments and modifications)
- Post-dissolution and enforcement matters
- Domestic violence protection orders
- Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements
In his spare time, James tries to spend as much time as possible with his large extended family in the Seattle area.
He enjoys traveling, hiking, house remodels, working out, and paddle sports. He spends some time in the garden attempting to control various species of bamboo and ivy from taking over the world, and keep trying to learn to cook with little success, although his cookbook collection is impressive.

We Make a Great Team
Our approach is client-focused and individualized. Each case is different and each client is different. At McGuire Law, our wealth of experience will drive the strategy to find resolution to any family law matter we undertake.
We specialize in dissolutions of marriage, legal separations, child custody, child support, parenting disputes, and pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements. We seek to find resolution short of going to court, but are fully prepared to handle litigation all the way through trial. In addition, our firm practices in the area of collaborative law as an alternative to litigation.
Our firm also provides alternative dispute resolution services – mediation and arbitration on a sliding scale fee structure. We can assist you in resolving temporary orders during the litigation process, a comprehensive settlement prior to trial, as well as finding creative solutions for post-dissolution disputes.
